Horology - the science of timekeeping - has a lot going for it as a hobby. For most hobbyists, horology means collecting and repairing clocks and watches. Here are a few thoughts:
you can get a lot of satisfaction for little effort and very little outlay if you don't like technical things, clocks and watches are wonderful things to look at, listen to, hold, admire and just plain enjoy if you do like technical things, horology can get as technical as you can cope with! If you like working with your hands you can repair clocks, or make your own. If you are into electronics, you can invent new timekeepers which the world has never seen before!
To the left you will see the beautiful Oris Pendulette, an interesting combination of pocket watch and desk clock. Unfortunately you can't see it in it's true glory because I've had to compress it so much to achieve a reasonable download time. But in common with all modern Oris watches it has a beautifully presented case and dial and good quality movement from the ETA range. I would strongly recommend that you look at the Oris range if you are interested in a medium cost mechanical watch (£150 to £700 in the UK).
